Dear Campers,
I continue to be amazed at how fast the time between camps flies by. As I write this letter to you 2007 is quickly drawing to an end and 2008 is about ready to get underway. I've got to tell you that I was extremely pleased with the 2007 camps, both in terms of what happened at the camps: I had a ball, and it appeared to me that you all did too; and in terms of the 2007 Cross Country results. I saw great results out of Wilderness Camp teams and individuals. I really appreciate it when you all wave at me or come up and just say "hi" at the meets.
Things went so good in 2007 that not much will change in 2008. There will still be three sessions. Session 1 will be July 6-10 at Pettit Camp Ground on North Fork River and Session 2 will be July 13-17 at Pettit's also. Session 3 will be July 20-24 at Camp Trinity in New Haven, Missouri.
One question that I get asked a lot is, "which session is the best"? I can honestly say I don't have a preference. The cost is the same $190.00 total cost with a $60.00 minimum deposit. The two North Fork Camps have the tubes and the river with daily tube trips and the canoe trip on Wednesday and the infamous Dawt Mill Run on Thursday to end things up, but Camp Trinity has the pool and two lakes with canoes and kayaks for daily water activities, plus the bike ride on the Katy Trail on Wednesday adn the 5K T.E.A.M. Race to end the camp on Thursday.
Last year five or six people attended all three sessions, and a dozen or more attended two sessions. However many you attend, whether it is one, two or three, I encourage you to make your reservations as early as possible to get into the session you prefer. Sessions one and two have room for 180 campers and session threee has room for 80.
Counselors need to e-mail me and let me know which sessions you are available for and get my OK.
I hope you plan to have a grreat summer mixed with hard work, lots of fun, and make new friends and renew old friendships. In my opinion there is no better place to do that than Joe Bill Dixion's Wilderness Running Camp.
Sincerely,
Joe Bill Dixon
